Laura Genovese

Laura A. Genovese grew up in Arlington, Virginia and relocated to the Philadelphia area after graduating from Bryn Mawr College. In 1983 she secured a position as the only paralegal in what was then a small intellectual property boutique. She continued this affiliation while attending graduate school on a teaching fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Master of Arts in the History of Art. Her interest in trademarks and copyrights sent her to law school, and she graduated cum laude from Villanova University School of Law in 1989.

Ms. Genovese was the first non-patent lawyer to be hired by Woodcock Washburn, an intellectual property law boutique based in Philadelphia. She became a partner at Woodcock Washburn in 1998 and chaired the firm’s Trademark and Copyright practice group until 2002 when she moved to the general practice law firm of Cozen O’Connor.

Laura has maintained an active involvement in the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. She chaired the Philadelphia Chapter of the organization from 1999 to 2001, and served on the Board of Trustees of the National Chapter from 2002 to 2005.

In 2005 Laura joined PSBN’s predecessor, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. She focuses her talents on providing trademark, copyright, and internet advice and strategy to businesses. She also counsels and assists clients litigation matters. Laura’s practice keeps her engaged in proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Laura is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a member of the American Bar Association and its Intellectual Property Section, the Copyright Society of the U.S.A., the International Trademark Association, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
